There’s nothing I love more than getting to spend quality time with my family and friends (along with presents, eating out and time off work of course!) so Christmas really is ‘the most wonderful time of the year’ for me.
It’s around this time every year that our social networking sites are flooded with an array of ‘New Year, New Me’ status’. Everyone is making a change to themselves; from joining the gym and dieting, to changing your attitude towards life (all of which are great positive changes). But it’s not always yourself you need to change to have a more positive and productive 2017, and instead potentially the people around you.
This year, more than any other, I’ve realised the importance of surrounding yourself with the ‘right’ individuals. People will either inspire you, or drain you- and it’s vital (and sometimes challenging) to be able to distinguish the difference between the two.
In your 20’s, the sky really is the limit and there should be no ‘cap’ on what you can achieve and how big you dream. Since starting my blog, I’ve been overwhelmed with the support from so many people both close to me and not so close. I’ve been able to so easily cherry-pick out the keepers, and step backwards from the rest.
It’s the one’s who give you that confused look when you tell them your goals, and try to ‘bring you back down to earth’ (quite possibly the most poisonous ‘favour’ someone could do for you). It’s the one’s that change the conversation back to themselves, or go on to compare you to someone else who hasn’t been successful doing what you’re trying to do. These are the people we must look out for.
It’s not until you really sit back and think about what you want to achieve, and look at how the people in your life are impacting you doing so that you can truly realise the affect that your peers can have on your achievements.
The easiest way to surround yourself with encouraging and positive people is to hold close the ones with similar goals and attitude to life, and with this I feel I’m starting the New Year myself with a solid selection.
2017 for me is all about ensuring that when the next New Year comes along, I’m exactly where I want to be. I want to clearly be able to see how far I’ve come from January through to December, and feel content with what I’ve achieved in this time.
It’s rare that you can achieve all you want out of life alone, and thats why its so very important to ensure you have the right people strapped in for the ride.
